LGD-4033 is commonly known as Ligandrol but has also been referred to as VK5211 or Anabolicum. In various studies on animals, LGD-4033 has been shown to increase muscular anabolic activity, have positive impact on bone density in male rats experiencing hypogonadism, and have success treating female postmenopausal rats experiencing osteoporosis.
Various studies were presented at the Annual Meeting of the Gerontology Society of America in 2009 that found that animal subjects that were given 0.3 mg/kg per day of LGD-4033 for 12 weeks had increased bone mineral density and resistance to fracture.
Furthermore, LGD-4033 increased skeletal muscle mass as well as muscle fiber diameter indicating increased muscular strength in hypogonadal and normal rats.
In another study, rats were ovariectomized and given either 0.04, 0.4 or 4 mg per kg of body weight/day of LGD-4033 for 5 weeks. They found that the LGD-4033 increased; capillary density and activity of the enzyme citrate synthase in the gastrocnemius muscle. After the study, they also concluded that the enzyme lactate dehydrogenase in the longissimus muscle increased and beneficial effects such as increased muscle vascularization, muscle metabolism, muscular weight and intramuscular fat content were noted in subjects given the highest dosage.
